Man escapes car fire

Friday, July 13th 2012 12:56

Vehicle rolled over in the accident

A man has had a miraculous escape from a crash which resulted in his car bursting into flames in Redditch this morning.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to A448 Bromsgrove Highway in Redditch shortly before 10.00am - a paramedic officer and two ambulance crews attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "Crews arrived to find a car which was on fire on the carriageway.

"The car had reportedly left the road, collided with a tree, rolled over and came to rest upright on the carriageway before bursting into flames.#

"The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, had managed to get out of the burning vehicle prior to emergency services arriving.

"After assessment by ambulance crews, the man was found to have suffered shoulder, arm and neck pain in the crash. He was immobilised with a neck collar and spinal board before being taken to the Alexandra Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

"Given the damage caused to the car and the fact that it had set on fire, it was remarkable that the man didn’t suffer more serious or even fatal injuries.”
