Racist attack in Telford

Man punched in the face

Police in Telford are investigating following an assault in Donnington. The incident occurred on The Common on Monday 11 June.

At around 3.45pm, as the victim - a 30-year-old man who is black - was walking across The Common an unknown man started shouting abuse at him. The abuse aimed at the victim was of a racist nature.

Having abused the victim, without any further warning the man then approached him and punched him full in the face.

A police spokesman said:

"As a result of this incident the victim suffered a cut lip and swelling to his mouth.

"Although he was shaken by this assault the victim has been able to describe the man that hit him. The man is described as being white, aged in his early to mid 30s, as being around 5ft 7inches tall and as having a slim build.

"He is also described as having short, blonde hair and as wearing a green and white striped t-shirt.

"Anyone who feels they may have information about this incident is asked to call West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000 quoting incident number 484S 110612.

"Alternatively, please remember that information can also be left anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 if you'd rather not get directly involved yourself."
