Offenders steal safe before fleeing

Police are investigating after a security guard was tied up during a robbery at a Telford scrap yard.

The incident happened at Wrekin Motor Spares in Rookery Road in St Georges at around 3.30am yesterday.(Sunday 10 June)

A male security guard was in the office when he heard his dog barking. He went out to investigate and was confronted by three unknown men.

The offenders bundled him back into the office, where they tied him up with tape.

It is believed the safe was then pulled around the back of the premises, where it was opened and items from within were removed.

The offenders fled.

The security guard managed to free himself and raise the alarm to police.

Police attended and carried out a full search of the area but the robbers had escaped.

Further forensic examinations are taking place today.

Detective Inspector Mike Nally, who is leading the investigation, said: "The security guard was extremely shaken as a result of his ordeal.

"He suffered a number of cuts and bruises as a result of being manhandled by the three offenders.

"Police are carrying out a number of enquiries today, including continuing with a full forensic examination of the scene.

"It is not yet known exactly what was taken from the safe.

"We want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything in the area at the time, or who has come across any suspicious activity in the vicinity in the days leading up to the robbery.

"We really need individuals to come forward with any information they might have.

"If you know anything, then please call us."

Anyone with information should contact Telford Police on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
