Sun Savers - DIY Hacks
THE bank holidays are just around the corner.
For 12 million UK households, that means a spot of DIY is on the horizon.
Redecorating can be expensive and time consuming, but there are some easy quick-fix tips to help free up your time and save you money.
Kitchen: Replacing kitchen tiles can cost a small fortune, but you can freshen your current ones up by re-grouting. I found Unibond Grout from Clas Ohlson, £5.99, much cheaper than the £12.80 price on Amazon.co.uk.
Sitting room: If you have a smaller living room, a mirror on either side of the wall makes it seem magically bigger. Another tip to give your home a spring lift is to update the smaller fixtures. Switching light and outlet covers from plastic white to attractive metal can work wonders. The brushed steel light switches from Sparks Warehouse are currently on sale for only £3.36, down from £12.58.
Bedroom: Give the impression of fitted wardrobes by getting a flat pack fitted wardrobe that will fit right across one wall. After putting it together, but before screwing on the doors, attach the wardrobe to the wall. The final effect looks like an amazing fitted wardrobe in your bedroom, for a fraction of the cost. IKEA is still worth the car journey. Pick up a wardrobe for just £75 instead of the £175 Argos cost.
