A man is fighting for life after being attacked with an axe in Wolverhampton, sparking a major police investigation.

Officers were called to Parkfield Road at its junction with Hailes Park Close in the Parkfield area of the city just before 8pm yesterday (15 March) to reports of violence involving around 10 men.

The victim, aged 42 and from Penn, was struck on the head with an axe, and is now fighting for his life in hospital.

He was left with a skull and spinal fractures, as well as a brain injury.

One man, aged 22 from the Pennfields area, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Chris Fox, leading the investigation, said: “This was an incredibly serious and violent assault, which has left a man in a critical condition with life-changing injuries.

“We’re still trying to understand the full circumstances of what happened and why.

“We really need to hear from anyone who saw what happened, or who has any other information, so that we can bring those responsible to justice.”

CCTV and house-to-house investigations are underway, and anyone with information has been asked to contact police on 101.
