Renewed effort to combat knife crime

West Mercia Police launched it's knife crime strategy at Malinsgate Police Station in Telford today (18 September).

'Calling time on knife crime' is being rolled out across Shropshire, this week, in a bid to deter young people from serious and organised crime.

It will see the force work in partnership with health, education, social work and other fields.

The scheme has been trialled in Telford since January, working with over a hundred young people who are at risk of carrying a weapon.

Signal 107 has been speaking to Assistant Chief Constable Martin Evans:

The launch also coincides with Operation Sceptre, a national campaign encouraging members of the public to give up their unwanted knives.

Until Sunday (22 September) people can dispose of their weapons anonymously at Shrewsbury and Telford police stations.
