There's been reports that the Home Office may intervene in the West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police alliance.
It would see the partnership alliance stay in place for a further 3 months.
Speculation comes just days before the 7 year alliance was due to end.
The forces have been sharing services and funding since 2012, but West Mercia decided to end the agreement earlier this year, saying it's effectively subsidising its partner.
Warwickshire Police, which disagrees, asked the Government to intervene, saying it hasn't had time to split its operations without compromising vital services.
In a statement released on Friday, the West Mercia Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commssioner said: "Having overcome the immediate financial challenges of a few years ago, we have found ourselves stuck in a collaboration where Warwickshire contributes just 31% of resources to the Alliance, but has a 50:50 say on governance, giving them a disproportionate influence on West Mercia’s policing decisions."
