The blaze broke out at Halesfield 23 on Sunday, May 31 at 22.43 where a large number of pallets caught fire and quickly spread to adjacent properties.

At the height of the incident 12 fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, several specialist officers and the incident command unit were in attendance. In total around 80 on-call, wholetime fire fighters and support roles were in attendance.

Shrewsbury Station Manager Craig Jackson said: “It’s one of the biggest fires we have seen in some time and has involved crews from all over the county.

“People may not realise but on-call crews from stations including Clun, Minsterly, Albrighton, Bridgnorth, Church Stretton, Craven Arms, Hodnet, Much Wenlock, Newport, Prees, Tweedale,  Baschurch and Wem attended along with whole time crews from Shrewsbury, Telford central and Wellington and have worked through the night and into the morning.

“A fire like this puts a huge strain on resources across the county and this one in particular involved many of our partners including the Environment Agency, Telford and Wrekin Council, Severn Trent, the Police and Ambulance services.

“Our control room was also inundated and received 73 calls regarding the fire so I’d also like to thank the fire control team for their work with the public and for residents’ vigilance. No one has been hurt during the incident.”

The fire has now been extinguished and the fire investigation crew is on site.
